Our purpose-built machining facilities give customers access to some of the UK’s most extensive large component machining capacity. Equipped with large gantry, travelling-column, horizontal and bed milling machines, WEC Machining can manufacture complex parts that exceed the working envelope of conventional CNC machining centres.

Purpose-Built Large Machining Facility

Our dedicated 60,000 sq. ft. machining and nuclear fabrication facility has been developed specifically to support large-scale engineering projects and components requiring substantial machine capacity.

Backed by a £10 million investment programme, the facility significantly expands WEC Machining's ability to manufacture oversized and technically demanding components for sectors where dimensional accuracy, traceability and manufacturing control are essential.

The facility also provides customers with access to machining and fabrication capabilities within the wider WEC Group, helping simplify complex projects involving multiple manufacturing processes.

Our Large Machining Capacity

WEC Machining operates an extensive range of CNC machinery capable of accommodating long, wide and complex components.

Our large machining equipment includes gantry milling machines, travelling-column milling machines, horizontal machining centres and CNC bed mills. We can also provide large diameter CNC turning for components up to 3.8 metres long and 950mm in diameter.

Alongside our specialist large machining equipment, WEC Machining operates more than 40 CNC machining centres and lathes, providing additional capacity for associated smaller components, CNC milling, CNC turning and sliding head machining.

Continued Investment in Large Machining

WEC Machining continues to invest in large-scale CNC technology to increase both component capacity and production availability.

Recent investment includes four additional Nicolás Correa machining centres: two Correa Axia travelling-column machines with working envelopes of 12m x 3m x 1.5m and two Correa Fox M gantry milling machines capable of machining components across exceptionally large working areas.

These machines provide the travel, rigidity and flexibility required for precision machining of large fabrications and complex engineered components.

Machining a large component accurately requires more than simply having a machine with sufficient travel. Workholding, datum control, component stability, inspection and machining strategy all play an important role in achieving the required tolerances.

As part of WEC Group, our machining operations can be combined with a wide range of complementary manufacturing processes, giving customers the option to source complex large components from one UK manufacturing partner.

In-house capabilities include laser cutting, waterjet cutting, plasma cutting, heavy fabrication, coded welding, CNC machining, finishing, painting, assembly, parts kitting, Kanban supply and installation support.

This is particularly beneficial for large machined fabrications, where a project may require material profiling, forming, welding, fabrication, stress relief, machining, inspection, finishing and final assembly.
